Hand woven flat weave dhurries

Hand woven flat weave dhurries are a hot choice suitable for almost any set up. The traditional designs have been favourites from ages. Now, these are available in more contemporary designs and patterns making them trendy today and more popular in the future also.

Namrata Exports provide best services during the whole rug making process. Our flat weaves rugs are one of a kind and we are consistent in making same rugs in customized sizes.
The materials that go into a weaving rugs are as important as the design and workmanship. They contribute enormously to the overall impression of the rug – its color, texture, tactile feel, and above all its durability.

Flatweave rugs have many benefits all year round, even though they are usually associated with summer due to their lightweight properties.
As flatweave rugs don’t have a pile, they usually have less material overall and are therefore considered one of the lightest types of rug there is. In addition, they are a lot more flexible then other rugs too and much easier to fold away or roll up, if you want to store them anywhere. If like us, you enjoy moving your rooms around and experimenting with placement, these rugs are great to manipulate with no heavy lifting required.

Durable

Due to the flatness of these rugs, they tend to be a lot more durable, as flat areas or prints don’t develop as they do in other styles of rugs. Also, the weave style of the rug means that the tips aren’t constantly being trampled, keeping the rug preserved for much longer.
As well as being durable, flatweave rugs are easy to clean, as you can vacuum them without worrying about damage to the rug. Be careful when hoovering such a light rug though, as they can easily slip if not secured in place. However, as the rugs are so light, it means they’re very easy to pick up and beat and shake off dust and other bits. It’s so much easier to blot any spills away on a flatweave rug, which normally soak quickly into other types of rugs.
Overall the skill required to make and design a flatweave rug is undoubtedly great, but with this rug type, the cost is significantly less than others, as they take much less time to make. If you’re decorating on a budget, then these rugs are definitely the choice for you!

THE PROCESS

Indian flat weave dhurrie rugs have been woven by hand in India for thousands of years and it is a skill that has been passed though families for generations.
Raw Material Selection is one of the key part in the whole rug making process. The sheen and the feel of the finished rug highly depends on the way these raw materials are selected, spun, dyed and washed. Most commonly used materials in hand woven flat weaves rugs are wool and silk. Wool is mostly carded or spun by hand. Silk is mostly spun by hand. Namrata Exports uses best quality of raw materials.
A flatweave rug is created using a weaving technique which involves the weaving of wool (or the chosen material) around warp thread pairs. When finished, these fibres create the entirety of the rug’s surface. The backing is created by weaving threads on a loom, meaning the pattern is usually reversible on each side, much unlike the usual backing or pile you would find on other rugs. The true definition of a flatweave rug is a rug that is made without using any knots at all in the process.

DYEING

Colouring yarn is a true art and there are many different ways of doing this. The initial way of doing it is however similar for all different methods, also the way that the yarns are prepared.
When the yarn for a carpet is spun, the next phase is to colour it. This is a complicated process which demands knowledge and accuracy to achieve good results.
Depending on the weather, the dyed yarn has to be dried in the sunlight for one to three days.
All the dyeing is done by hand by our specialized Dye Masters. The dyes are measured by eye and then added to a vat of boiling water, with the addition of setting agents. The yarn is then plunged in and out of the bubbling hot dye until the correct colour is achieved. Then rinsed through with water and hung to dry in the sun.

SPINNING

Spinning the cotton or wool, creating a 20 count thread to make the yarn, which is then spooled ready for weaving.

MAKING THE LOOM

Probably one of the most important steps of the whole process, the loom. The warp is made ready for weaving and precision is key in order to make the perfect rug.

WEAVING

Hand woven dhurrie is a form of Indian Carpet which uses the non-pile technique of weaving and combines a variety of materials and patterns to create a vibrant throw for the floor. Hand woven dhurries are made manually by skilled artisans on traditional horizontal & vertical looms.
Hand woven durries are made on a smaller medium-sized weaving loom. With weft fingers, the weaver picks up a specified number of threads on the wrap and insert the colored yarn that forms the weft, hit it down in the place with the help of a panja or heavy, multi pronged metal fork.
Attractive and sturdy dhurries are woven on pit-looms or vertical looms using cotton or woolen yarns. Before weaving begins the yarn is dyed in vibrant colours according to the designs which are traditional as well contemporary variations.
2 - 3 weavers will weave a few inches each day until the rug is complete. It is vital that the weavers working on the rug apply the same amount of pressure so that the rug is even on both sides.

WASHING

After spending around a month in the dusty area side you can imagine the dhurries need a bit of a clean. Namrata Exports are the washing team and make sure each rug is spotless.

FINISHING

The dhurrie is then taken to be checked and the finishing touches such as fringing, pom poms or tassels are added.

Packing Process:

After the carpet is finished, it is packed and bailed for exports.
The brand identification mark on a silken tag, is sewn below the pile. The tag carries the logo and name of the company along with the care instructions.
The process of Rug Packing at Namrata Exports is conducted in the following process:
We pack in two proven techniques: on shipping tubes and bales.
The carpet is rolled onto a shipping tube and then wrapped in transport foil. The shipping tube prevents buckling of the carpet, providing it with better support and makes the handling of the package very easy.
Carpets with a width of 2 meters or more are folded together expertly and carefully. By using this special folding technique your carpet will be folded into a compact carpet bale which will eventually also be wrapped with our robust transport foil.
Well sealed it will prevent the penetration of moisture or dust during its transport to you.
